How To Make Edible Slime
Easy for kids to create, encourage your kids to help each step of the way or make all on their own!
Add ingredients to the mixing bowl
Add the dry pudding mix to a mixing bowl. A vanilla pudding mix is used in this recipe but can be swapped for any flavor that you might have hiding in the back of the pantry. Between vanilla, chocolate, banana, lemon and pistachio, the pudding slime can take on a new color each time.
Then, add the cornstarch and water to the mixing bowl and stir until combined.
Using clean hands, blend until smooth
Using hands, blend the slime until smooth. If you find the slime is still sticky, add more cornstarch 1/4 cup at a time until no longer sticky.
Add sprinkles
Once smooth, the pudding slime is ready to play with. Add sprinkles and let kids mix them into the mixture.
Yes, there is clean-up involved but after you see how much fun your kids have it is worth every second. Also, we are here to confirm that cleaning up sprinkles is way easier than cleaning up slime made with glitter!
Recipe Notes
This slime is not meant to be eaten. It is non-toxic and ok if kids put it in their mouths, but it’s not a food product to eat. Pudding slime can be stored in the fridge between play sessions in an air-tight container. If the slime seems dried out after removing it from the fridge, add 1 tablespoon of water or vegetable oil to make it slimy again. Since it is made with food ingredients, there is potential for pudding slime to mold – check for signs of mold prior to playtime.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Read the Recipe Carefully: Always start by reading the entire recipe carefully to understand the steps and ingredients required.
- Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure that your workspace is clean and well-organized. Lay down a disposable tablecloth or parchment paper to make cleanup easier.
- Use Clean Hands and Utensils: Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the ingredients and use clean utensils and bowls to avoid contamination.
- Measure Accurately: Use accurate measuring cups and spoons to measure ingredients precisely. This is especially important in slime-making, as the right ratios are crucial for the desired consistency.
- Gradually Add Ingredients: When adding dry ingredients like cornstarch to wet ingredients, add them gradually while stirring to prevent lumps from forming.
- Knead and Mix Thoroughly: Kneading or mixing the ingredients thoroughly is key to achieving the right texture. Keep kneading until the slime is smooth and no longer sticky.
- Adjust Consistency as Needed: If the slime is too sticky, add more cornstarch in small increments until it reaches the desired consistency. Conversely, if it’s too dry, add a bit more water gradually.
- Supervise Children: If children are involved in the process, closely supervise them to ensure their safety. Remind them not to eat the slime, as it’s meant for play only.
- Experiment and Customize: Feel free to get creative by experimenting with different colors, scents, or add-ins like sprinkles, glitter, or small toys to make the slime more exciting.
- Storage: Store any unused slime in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag to keep it fresh and prevent it from drying out.
- Enjoy Responsibly: While edible slime is safe to play with, it’s important to remind everyone not to consume it in large quantities. It’s meant for sensory play, not as a snack.
- Have Fun: Slime-making is a fun and creative activity, so enjoy the process and encourage kids to let their imaginations run wild.
