Oven Smores Ideas
Making smores in the oven is so much fun for the whole family. Of course, the traditional graham cracker, chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker sandwich is a great go-to.
However, if you are looking for inspiration to customize smores, here are a few ideas!
- Candy: Consider Reese’s peanut butter cups, mint chocolate, caramel squares or your favorite candy bar in addition or in place of the chocolate.
- Cookies: Replace the graham cracker with gluten free Oreos, chocolate chip cookies or sugar cookies.
- Fruit: Place sliced bananas, strawberries, peaches or raspberries on top of the toasted marshmallow.
- Nut butter: Drizzle peanut butter, almond butter or sunflower butter on top of the toasted marshmallow.
- Bacon: Add crispy bacon for a sweet and savory combination.
- Flavored marshmallows: Try flavored marshmallows such as vanilla, strawberry, chocolate or another flavor that is available to you.
- Flavored chocolate: Instead of Hersey’s milk chocolate, try white, dark or flavored chocolate like sea salt, chili, caramel, orange or raspberry.
Helpful Tips
- Preheat the oven: Make sure the oven is preheated before adding the sheet pan smores for best results. This will help toast the marshmallow and give it the golden-brown color we are looking for.
- Marshmallow placement: Add marshmallows to the top of the chocolate (not the other way around). You can use regular-sized marshmallows or multiple mini marshmallows.
- Make homemade graham crackers: Our Gluten Free Graham Cracker Recipe is easy to make and tastes great. Made with an almond flour blend and shortening, these graham crackers are gluten and dairy-free.
- Broil carefully: The marshmallows can go from golden-brown to burnt really quickly if you aren’t monitoring the broiler. Rotate the pan in the oven to ensure even browning if needed.
- Keep away from the top rack: If you have a preference for golden-brown marshmallows (versus burnt) then keep the sheet pan off the top rack when broiling.
- Line the baking sheet: Adding a layer of parchment paper saves time and effort during clean-up. Say goodbye to the days of scrubbing sticky marshmallows from the sheet pan.
- Add toppings: In addition to the ideas above, extra toppings like fruits, nuts, caramel drizzle or chocolate sauce can be added to the marshmallow before adding the top graham cracker.
- Cool slightly: Allow the oven smores to cool for a minute or two before serving. This will help the marshmallow set and chocolate fully melt.

Kids In The Kitchen
Cooking tips and suggestions for kids making this recipe.
- Fill the sheet pan with enough graham crackers to feed your family or guests. The crackers should not touch or overlap. If you need more smores, ask your kitchen helper for an additional sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
- If making a double batch, you can use the same sheet pan over and over to bake. Be aware that the tray may be hot if heated earlier. Always use oven mitts when handling a hot sheet pan. If the parchment paper is gooey or covered with chocolate, add a new sheet of parchment paper to the tray.
- Most ovens have a light that allow you to close the oven door while the broiler is on. If your oven does not have a light, set the kitchen timer for 1-minute increments so you can keep a close eye on your smores recipe.
