Smoothie packs can be made with ziplock bags or stasher bags depending on your preference. Quart size bags make for perfect single servings. You can write the ingredients or name of smoothie on the outside of the bags prior to freezing. Plus, write “add milk” on the outside of the bag. This helps everyone at home to easily find and create the smoothie they are craving!
The first step to making a smoothie pack is gathering the equipment then deciding on the smoothie ingredients.
Equipment
- freezer ziplock bags
- measuring cups and spoons
- blender (when ready to make)
Ingredients
- 3 ounces tofu, drained and cubed
- 1 small banana
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
- 1 cup almond milk or any kind of milk
How To Make
Follow the simple step by step instructions below to learn to make a smoothie pack while creating a delicious tofu smoothie that kids rave over!
Add ingredients to the ziplock bag
Add the tofu, banana, peanut butter, and ground flax seeds to the ziplock bag. If there are any other ingredients that sound good to you, this is the opportunity to mix them in! Chia seeds, cinnamon and spinach all make great additions to this tofu smoothie.
Remove air and seal the bag. Write on the outside to add 1 cup of milk. Then, place the bag in the freezer to freeze.
Blend the smoothie
When ready to make the smoothie, pour the frozen contents into a blender. From dairy to non-dairy milk, pick your favorite milk to add into the blender. For this tofu smoothie recipe, we use unsweetened almond milk.
Next, puree the smoothie and serve. Garnish with a banana slice and a dab of peanut butter.
Freezing Yogurt
Yogurt is a great ingredient to add to smoothies and can easily be frozen right in the freezer pack. Unlike the milk, add the yogurt to the bag prior to freezing along with any other ingredients. Then use the smoothie pack when desired, adding the liquid before blending.
There is no need to pre-freeze yogurt in ice cube trays, it will pop right out of the smoothie pack once frozen! For more tips and tricks to freezing yogurt, check out our How To Freeze Yogurt tutorial.
Smoothie Tips
- Cut fresh fruits and vegetables into small chunks before freezing to make it easier to blend
- Add green veggies such as kale or spinach to the freezer bag for added nutrients without compromising flavor
- Swap plain yogurt for Greek yogurt to boost the protein
- Adjust the amount of milk to alter the smoothie consistency by adding more for a thinner smoothie or less for a thicker smoothie
