This microwave mug pizza recipe is a fun summer lunch idea that kids can make on their own. What child doesn’t love pizza? I have yet to meet one!
With the school year speeding by I can already hear my kids running through the yard, rummaging through the pantry, and tracking wet footprints into the house. A vision of summer break.
I love hearing the sounds of kids playing and running around outside. I love them diving into freshly baked muffins or grabbing cold popsicles out of the freezer.
But let’s face it. Not all days are like this.
Often times, the sounds of children playing include a whole lot of fighting and those wet footprints? While endearing at first, they tend to get irritating as the kids don’t wipe their feet off before running inside to grab something.
Then there’s lunchtime. And if your kids are like mine, way too many requests for Mac & Cheese.
This year, I am trying to stay ahead of the game, coming up with fresh kids lunch ideas that will make my kids happy while providing them with the balanced nutrition I strive for.
Enter Mug Pizza.
How fun is it that kids can make this individual-sized mug pizza recipe all on their own, or for the little ones, with just a bit of help? With minimal ingredients, these are sure to become a staple kid’s lunch idea.
Using store-bought pizza dough topped with marinara, cheese, and veggies, these microwave mug pizzas are popped it into the microwave for just 1 minute. That’s it. Lunch is served!
This mug pizza recipe can easily be made in a microwave-safe bowl for a great cold lunch idea. Kids can microwave the pizza at school for one minute to have a freshly baked mug pizza for lunch!

Microwave Mug Pizza Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/8 th of a store-bought pizza crust
- 2-3 tbsp. marinara sauce
- 2-3 tbsp. shredded mozzarella cheese
- diced peppers tomatoes, mushrooms or veggies of choice
Instructions
- Cut pizza dough into squares using a pizza cutter
- Place pizza dough into wide mouth mug or bowl
- Top dough with marinara sauce, cheese, and veggies
- Microwave for 1 minute, or until cheese is melted and dough cooked through.

When I see “store-bought pizza dough,” I generally think of raw dough, refrigerated or frozen. But I’m assuming this recipe calls for already-baked dough, because there is no way that raw dough will cook through in a microwaved minute!
