Peach season may be one of my family’s favorites times of the year. There is just something about biting into a fresh and juicy peach in the summer. With these simple freezing instructions, we can now enjoy this flavorful fruit all year and so can you!
The secret to success is picking the best peach before slicing and storing. Keep these tips in mind whether you are selecting your peaches from the grocery store or picking right off a peach tree:
- Gently squeeze the peach – if there is a slight give to the skin then it’s ripe
- Steer away from peaches with a green undertone in the skin as this is a sign the peaches were picked too early
- Pick a peach with a sweet smell as this indicates the peach is ripe and ready
- Disregard peaches with holes, bruises, blemishes or punctured skin
- Let unripe peaches sit on the counter at room temperature to further ripen if needed. They won’t be as sweet as if picked when ripe, but they are still delicious.

Best Way To Freeze Peaches
Follow these simple steps to learn how to freeze sliced peaches with skin on or without.
Freezing Peaches with Skin On
Prep the peaches by washing the peaches. Place onto a cutting board and slice around the peach. Twist to open and remove the pit. Cut into slices.
Place sliced peaches onto the parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Freeze for 30 minutes to 1 hour to prevent the peaches from clumping together. Remove frozen slices and place them into a freezer ziplock bag. Label and freeze.
Freezing Peaches without Skin
Bring a large stockpot of water to a boil. Prep a large bowl with ice and cold water.
Wash the peaches. Cut a cross into the top of the peach. Once the water is boiling use tongs to place peaches into the boiling water, making sure the water covers the whole peach. Boil until the skin starts to peel away from the peach where you cut it – about 30-45 seconds.
Use the tongs to remove the peaches and place them directly into the ice bath.
Once cooled, slice around the peach then twist. Remove the pit. Slice into wedges. Place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes – 1 hour. Place frozen pieces and place into a freezer ziplock bag. Label and freeze.

How To Cut a Peach
Once the peach is washed, place on a cutting board and slice around the peach being cautious of the pit in the middle. Remove the pit, discard then place the peach halves (cut side down) on the cutting board. Cut thin or thick slices.
For how to peel peaches easily, the key is cutting the cross into the top of the peach and boiling. You will be able to peel away the skin off the peach within 30-45 seconds.
How to Blanch Peaches
To blanch, toss the whole peaches into a pot of boiling water for less than a minute then remove and place straight into an ice bath (ice water in a bowl). Once completely cool, remove the ice bath, slice and store.
