Tips and Tricks
Use Certified Gluten-Free Oats: Ensure your oats are labeled as “certified gluten-free” to prevent cross-contamination with gluten-containing grains during processing.
Room Temperature Ingredients: Allow your eggs to come to room temperature before adding them to the cookie dough. Room temperature eggs blend more evenly and create a smoother cookie dough.
Chill the Dough: For thicker cookies, consider chilling the cookie dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before scooping and baking. This can help prevent excessive spreading during baking.
Adjust Baking Time: Keep a close eye on your cookies as they bake. Oven temperatures can vary, so adjust the baking time as needed. The cookies are ready when they have a golden-brown color around the edges but are still slightly soft in the center. They will continue to set as they cool on the baking sheets.
Customize: Feel free to customize your cookies by adding nuts, different types of dried fruits, or other mix-ins that you enjoy
Gluten Free Baking Tips
Whether you are a newbie or seasoned pro when it comes to gluten-free baking, here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Selecting Gluten-Free Flour
When it comes to picking a gluten-free flour blend, we recommend selecting based on preference. We find trialing a variety of blends is the best way to find your favorite. This recipe was tested successfully with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1 to 1 Baking Flour. We also suggest picking a gluten-free flour blend that contains xanthan gum as this will add ease to baking.
Measuring Gluten-Free Flour
Instead of scooping the measuring cup into the bag of flour, use the spoon and sweep method for measuring. Use a spoon to scoop flour into the measuring cup and then a knife to level out the top of the measuring cup once full. This will provide an accurate amount of flour to prevent crumbly and dry cookies.
Check Labels
You will want to read the ingredients and be on the search for the certified gluten-free label prior to purchasing to ensure products are celiac safe. All of our gluten-free recipes marked with this symbol ✅ represent foods that need to be checked for gluten as a helpful way to identify which brands that may or may not be gluten-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Oats are naturally gluten-free; however, conventional oats can be contaminated during processing by gluten-containing grains. Certified gluten-free oats are a celiac-safe option that are processed with measures in place to prevent cross-contamination. These cookies were tested successfully with GF Harvest Gluten-Free Rolled Oats, an allergen-free brand that is certified gluten-free.
A single batch made with a medium-sized cookie scoop makes approximately 24 cookies.
Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Place cooled cookies in a freezer bag or container with a label 3 months from the date the cookies were baked.
Storage Instructions
Once your cookies have cooled completely, transfer them to an airtight container. Seal the container tightly to prevent air from getting in, which can lead to your cookies becoming stale. You can store these cookies at room temperature for up to three to four days.
If you need to store them for a more extended period, freezing is an excellent option. To freeze, arrange the cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or a resealable freezer bag, with parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking. They can be kept in the freezer for up to three months.
When you’re ready to enjoy your frozen cookies, simply remove them from the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
