I love cooking, but with the school year in full swing, along with after-school activities and sports practices, our meals have been a bit repetitive.
If you’ve felt this way as well, I’m excited to share this easy recipe for kids with you today.
A mealtime pancake bar. It’s as simple as differently sized pancakes, lots of fruit, and some breakfast meats. Keep reading to learn how to add loads of fun to your next family meal.
So, I must fill you in on a secret. I am not artistic – at all. I can barely draw a stick person. Now, my daughter? She’s only nine, but she is a wonderful artist. I knew this meal idea for kids was going to be one of her favorites – what kid wouldn’t like to be allowed to play with their food before eating it?!
While these cute animal pancakes might look complicated, believe me, they are not.
As I said, I am not artistic, and I was able to come up with these guys all on my own – so believe me when I say anyone can do it. 🙂
This Bisquick recipe got a veggie boost with the addition of shredded zucchini. I encourage you to go ahead, try the zucchini.
Pancakes are the perfect meal for us time-starved moms. Even better – they are an easy recipe for kids to make either side by side you in the kitchen, or on their own for those older kiddos. Making pancakes get kids cooking in no time at all!

How To Make Animal Pancakes
This family meal idea is easy to get on the table. Simply make the pancake batter, adding 1 cup of shredded zucchini. Pour batter onto hot griddle (or pan) in different sized circles and ovals. For different shapes, spray metal cookie cutters with nonstick spray and pour batter into them. Once the bottom is cooked, remove the cookie cutter with an oven mitt (they get hot!), and flip.
Fill bowls with a variety of fruit, yogurt, and breakfast meats – I used sausage and bacon. Present the plate of pancakes in different sizes and shapes along with all the toppings. Challenge your family to make the most creative work of art – vote on your favorites – then snap a photo and enter the #pancakestar contest or share in the comments below!
My daughter loved creating her works of art!
This is a great idea for your kids next sleepover.
It’s easy to do, and kids have a blast playing with their meal before eating it! It’s also a great way to get more fruit into children! 🙂
Everyone loves breakfast for dinner, and busy moms love easy meals. I’d love to hear how your family likes this family meal idea.Print
