Food and memories go hand in hand. Everybody has food that brings back memories.
Certain recipes like my mom’s No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie recipe instantly bring me back to my childhood kitchen.
To be honest, these cookies never even had a name. As kids we just called them “those chocolate cookies”. My mom knew what we were talking about.
September’s Recipe Redux theme is “First Cooking Recollections”.
I spoke to my mom to see if there was a recipe I helped her make when I was little – besides time-honored chocolate chip cookies.
She said she really didn’t have us cook with her and she felt badly about this.
As I thought about the theme and my mom’s answer, I clearly saw that my mother had no reason to feel badly.
While I may not have learned to cook directly from my mom , I do know that my interest in food and raising a healthy family comes from my mother.
Let me explain.
Everyday, no matter what, she was in the kitchen cooking my family fresh, healthy, homemade meals. Every. Day.
My mother did not feed us fast food or take us out to eat. She did not rely on pre-boxed meals or convenience buy cheap clomiphene foods. She kept files and files of recipes, which she would sit for hours looking through, planning out meals for the week.
Watching her do this day after day, year after year, stuck with me. She may feel she failed us by not cooking with us, but she is very wrong. She led by example and I have learned a great deal from her.
That leads to the cookie recipe. I specifically remember her making these cookies. They did not show up that often, but when they did my siblings and I were very happy!
I made couple changes to make the cookies healthier by using less sugar and oil. I also rolled them into balls rather than the instructed drop cookie.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!Looking for a sweet treat that doesn't take much time to make? Try No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter… Click To Tweet
